ZeroToxins App – Privacy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

The short version

The ZeroToxins app has no accounts, no subscriptions, and no ads. The app asks for your location only to suggest the store where you bought a product, and we don’t track you across apps or sites. Our crash-reporting service records an approximate location, described below.

Label photos are read on your phone and never leave it.

We count how often the app gets used, under a random ID the app creates on your device.

Reading a label happens on your device

When you point the camera at a package, the text is read on your device. The image is not uploaded, not stored on our server, and not sent to any other company.

What we collect

A random ID for your device. The app creates a random ID the first time you open it.

How much the app gets used. When the app starts, it sends that ID with the number of scans completed on your device and the app version you are running. Our server keeps these with the date the ID was last seen. We use this to see whether people come back after installing.

Which claims turn up. Without the ID, the app sends counts of which claims on our list were matched and how many claims of each kind a scan found. These counts carry no words from any label and no product names, and they show us which claims to work on next.

Barcodes you scan. When the app reads a barcode, it asks our server for the product name. The request carries the barcode and nothing that identifies you or your device.

Messages you send us. If you contact support from the app, we receive your message, the product name if you enter one, and your email address if you choose to give it. The app also attaches its version and build number, the version of our claim list, and your phone’s operating system version. No device ID is sent with a message.

Your network address. When you look up a barcode or send a message, our server briefly keeps a record based on your network address to limit how many requests come from one network. Our hosting provider’s access logs record the network address, time, and web address of each request the app makes to our server, including the barcode in a product-name lookup, and keep them for a limited period.

What stays on your phone

Scan history and saved scans. Your recent scans and the scans you save are stored on your device. They are not sent to our server. Deleting the app deletes them.

Store tags. If you allow location, the app uses it to suggest where you bought a product. To find nearby stores it sends your location to Apple’s map service, never to us, and the stores you tag stay on your phone.

What we don’t collect

No name. No email, unless you type one into a support message. No password. No location data on our server; location is used only on your phone and with Apple’s map service, as described above. No contacts. No access to your photo library. No advertising identifier. No browsing history. No tracking across apps or sites. No photographs, ever.

Who we share with

Our crash-reporting service receives a report if the app crashes and a record each time the app starts. Both carry an identifier for your device, and a crash report carries a second device identifier. A crash report includes technical details such as the error, the device model, the operating system version, the language setting, and the app version, along with an approximate location, a city and country. It does not include anything you typed, scanned, or photographed.

Our hosting provider runs our server and keeps the access logs described above.

Our hosting provider and our crash-reporting service handle this data under protections equal to those described in this policy.

No other party collects information about your activity across other apps or websites through this app. The identifiers our crash-reporting service uses are specific to this app. Links in the app open in your browser and take you to other websites, which have their own privacy policies.

That is the complete list. We don’t share your information with anyone else, we don’t sell it, and we don’t allow it to be used for advertising.

How long we keep things

Usage counts, and the random ID they are stored under, stay on our server until we delete them.

Support messages stay on our server until we delete them.

Our server does not store barcode lookups. Our hosting provider keeps access logs for a limited period.

Our crash-reporting service keeps crash reports and launch records for a limited period.

Deleting your information

Deleting the app removes the random ID, your scan history, your saved scans, and your store tags from your phone.

To ask us to delete a support message, your usage counts, or crash records, email the support address below. A support message you sent with an email address can be found by that address. Usage counts and crash records are stored under device identifiers rather than your name or email, so tell us your device model, the app version, and roughly when you last used the app; if we can’t identify which records are yours, we’ll tell you.

Children

The app isn’t directed at children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes we’ll update the date above and post the new version here.
